The Community Foundation of Abilene is honored to host SPUR, a nonprofit conference offering nonprofit education led by experienced presenters, connections with peers and community leaders, and engagement with potential funders interested in rural causes.

Join us for the inaugural SPUR conference, where nonprofit professionals and funders with a heart for rural causes will assemble in Sweetwater, Texas, for two days of communication, connection, and collaboration.

SPUR is powered by the Community Foundation of Abilene. Since 1985, the Foundation has worked with donors, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders to help build thriving communities.

Through the Windham Fund, the Foundation is honored to provide grant opportunities to eligible rural nonprofit organizations in counties within a 150-mile radius of Oplin, Texas. There are more than 70 counties in this territory.

The Foundation's rural grantmaking initiative, made possible through the Windham Fund for Education and Community Development, has generated nearly $1M since it first awarded grants in 2022

Nonprofit subject-matter experts

From board governance to capacity building, marketing and communications to donor stewardship and development, our subject-matter experts will share their knowledge specific to the nonprofit landscape.

Deep in the heart of Sweetwater, Texas

SPUR will be hosted in a new Texas city each time the conference is hosted. This year, the nonprofit conference will be held at TSTC in Sweetwater, Texas. Located 40 miles west of Abilene, Sweetwater leads wind power in the Western Hemisphere.

TRAVEL

For rural funders and civic leaders

SPUR offers funders access to gain insights about the rural nonprofit landscape. Funders will hear from organizations about needs and services in rural West-Central Texas. At the Funder's Roundtable, attendees can build relationships with funders and share ideas.
